Apart from serving as a player, Debs has also coached the OG team for two consecutive years, between 2016 and 2018.

In spite of the former OG coach and champion retiring from the professional circuit back in 2021, Ceb is still very much regarded as one of the best Dota 2 players of all time. And, not to mention the fourth richest Esports player on the map—a title that comes loaded with a $5.8 million purse. Will this be toppled by another player by the end of 2023? Who knows. Either way, it's quite the benchmark to overcome.

3. Anathan “ana” Pham

Anathan, “ana” Pham is a—you guessed it—former member of the OG faction, and one of the primary champions on the Dota 2 circuit. Since making his formal debut back in 2013, the Australia-based pro has competed in a total of 26 paying tournaments, from which he has tallied up a generous $6 million in winnings. Again, these prizes mostly came from OG's wins at The International 2018, and The International 2019, out of which the team earned a total of $26 million.

Since briefly retiring from OG in 2021, Pham has made a return to the Dota 2 circuit as a champion under the T1 banner. As for what lies ahead for the seasoned pro is unclear, though one thing remains certain: a lot of rivals will be eyeing up the third spot on the board of richest Esports players in a bid to knock Pham from the pedestal.

2. Jesse “JerAx” Vainikka

Jesse “JerAx” Vainikka, a Finland-based veteran on the Dota 2 circuit, has made an impression on the Esports platform through The International, at which he and OG brought home the 2019 title. As of 2023, Johan Sundstein, otherwise known as N0tail, is the richest Esports player in the world, with an accumulated $7.2 million in overall winnings since 2012. Like his peers, the lion's share of these earnings have stemmed from Dota 2, in which the seasoned professional has competed in a grand total of 130 tournaments.

In The International 2019, N0tail played alongside OG, earning a first place ranking and a mouthwatering $3 million from the total prize pool. As it currently stands, N0tail is considered the undisputed titleholder in Esports, as well as the richest long-term professional on the board. Since 2020, the realm of Esports has only risen from strength to strength, effectively fortifying its position as one of the best billion-dollar empires in modern media. 2022 alone, believe it or not, raked in $100 million in prize pools—and that doesn't even graze the surface of the sports entertainment market as a whole, either. It makes sense then, that insiders are claiming that the Esports subsidiary is shaping up to hold a monumental value of $3 billion by the end of 2028.

Of course, 2022 was only the beginning of a new chapter in the book of flourishing Esports tournaments. Needless to say that, in spite of the cooldown period following the pandemic, it delivered what it set out to do on all accounts, using its resources to establish some of the biggest and most profitable events in the world. That said, if you're curious to know which Esports events typically pay out the most, then read on.

5. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

Since 2012, the beloved tactical first-person shooter known as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (or CS:GO, for most) has conjured up well over $134 million in total prize pools, essentially making it one of the highest-paying Esports games of all time. This is usually crowdfunded via Valve's Dota 2 community battle pass, and is essentially spread between the 20 teams, regardless of their final ranking.

Funnily enough, The International 2022 was actually in receipt of one of the lowest-paying prize pools in the history of the event. Fact is, in 2021 that same event posted a solid $40 million prize pool, which led to the finalist (that being Team Spirit) receiving a whopping $18 million in winnings. It's a known fact that the online world doesn't exactly run on sunshine and rainbows. Needless to say, we've seen our fair share of toxic communities in online multiplayer games just as much as the next casual gamer. It's built into the blood of nearly every PvP game in existence, and it's an obstacle nobody can really avoid. It's a hostile playground, and toxicity, whether we like it or not, comes with the territory.

Just last year, a survey shed light on the most toxic video games of 2021. To our surprise, the titles we assumed were strewn with kind-hearted folk ended up being the weightiest anchors. Today, the standings remain motionless, meaning the developers have done little to abolish the harassment that plagues the lobbies. And if you're curious to know which games still bear the lead paperweights, then allow us to clue you in. Here are the most toxic gaming communities right now.

5. League of Legends

League of Legends may hold its own as one of the most successful battle arena games ever conceived, but that doesn't alter the fact that its online community is littered with power-hungry trolls. This has been the case ever since it first came about in 2009, and not a great deal has been done to fix it in, well, a decade. And that's a crying shame, as the game itself is booming with only the finest MOBA qualities.

Of course, any game with a global backing is sure to attract some level of unwanted attention. League, however, sports a lighthouse for a chassis, and it shows. FIFA has established itself as one of the most competitive video game series on the planet. But with great competition, however, comes an overwhelming amount of hot-headed players, many of whom use online matchmaking games to channel their anger. Because of this, the series has garnered a pretty poor reputation for being a stain on the sporting front.

For many, FIFA isn't just a game, but a portal to a whole other world. A world that, like most Esports games, revolves around leaderboards and statistics. It's a means to an end for some, which of course makes the pressure of winning a whole lot higher. Still, it doesn't excuse the questionable behaviour that many players sport. And the fact is, newcomers would much rather stay away from the big leagues than entertain them.

3. Call of Duty: Vanguard

Call of Duty is notorious for having one of the worst player bases in gaming, something that is exacerbated by the savage Esports events that are anything but friendly. Vanguard really is no different, which is a hard pill to swallow given the fact that fans of the series have been hounding its makers to banish the toxicity for a fair few years now.

The fact is, Vanguard retains the lion's share of the bitter critiques, with reports of harassment, threats, and cyber bullying forever making rounds all over the globe. For these reasons, a rough 42% of players either abandon the game altogether, or revert back to the game's offline campaign to get their kicks. But tell us one soul who buys Call of Duty for its campaign mode. It's predominantly online, as it always has been, which is why it's all the more frustrating that nothing is being done to squeeze the severs of all its toxicity.

2. Dota 2

If you're wanting to stream an engaging Esport, then you needn't look any further than Dota 2 to get your quality fix. As it's played by some of the industry's biggest pro gamers, its frequent tournaments often boast ludicrously high prize pools. Sure enough, that's why the vast majority tune in: to see which team conquers the monopoly and claims the lion's share of the score. But playing it for yourself, on the other hand, is a different story, and not a kind-hearted one, either.

Of course, it's no secret that Dota 2 is an incredibly demanding game. This harsh learning curve, though, has led to some players using competitors as virtual punching bags in the heat of the moment. And if there's one thing Dota 2 isn't short on—it's moments. It's a playground flooded with a lot of amped up players, and it isn't very often you'll be greeted with praise and polite conversation.

Well, there you have it; Valorant, the most toxic video game community of 2022. Unfortunately, this isn't the first strike for Riot Games' free-to-play first-person shooter. Though, going by a report made a little while back, Valorant muted 400,000 players, and served up 40,000 bans. And that was just the statistics from a single month alone. Today, the developer continues to battle the brutal community by implementing automatic detection systems in each session. And it works, for the most part, anyway. Nevertheless, it is still considered a worldwide issue among gamers, giving Riot Games and its moderators one heck of a headache.

It's safe to say that you have to adore these games in order to be a professional at them. This is due to the fact that players must be completely aware of the layout of the room or space they are entering before breaching a door, window, or wall. As there quite literally is hundreds of angles they can be shot from. Even from under tables across the room, or from a pinky-sized hole in the wall. That's why players must spend hours on end studying the map and remembering crucial choke points. On top of their in-game training.

Players can constantly combine their abilities to deal more damage or anticipate when they won't be as effective. This also depends on the items players have, so you must be aware of what all players possess.  It's a constant game of back and forth strategy, on top of the wildly fast thinking, you must conjure at a moment's notice.

Super Smash Bros is one of the most popular competitive games of all time. However, Super Smash Bros. Melee's release in 2001, a few years after the original game's release, was what really launched its entry into the world of competitive video games. If you have the chance, watch a Starcraft II player play the game with a mouse and keyboard cam. Upon doing so, you'll quickly realize why Starcraft II is one of the toughest esports games. In the game, there are three different races to play, Protoss, Terrain, and Zerg. Each of which has its own special units and attacks. Players choose a race to play and are dropped into a 1v1 style map. From there must build their army from the ground up, in offense, defense, and upgrades.

This is done by giving a series of commands, so since you're in a race with your opponents, the timing and speed at which you do so is crucial. Furthermore, the game has hundreds, if not thousands, of commands that you must memorize and execute quickly. We could go on and on about the other requirements that StarCraft II has in order to be good, but this is just one of the key factors that make the game so challenging.

Because of this, mastering and learning each character, item, abilities, and how they stack and counter a much wider root than you would see in LoL.

MOBAs are a pretty low-demanding game, and given how far technology has progressed, it's no surprise that the genre has a large following on mobile. It's actually expanding so rapidly that a list of the top five MOBA games on mobile would be appropriate. As it currently stands, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is evidence of just how popular mobile MOBAs remain. With its 2016 release, the game was one of the first to jump on the bandwagon, and its popularity is clearly evident by its seven million average monthly player count in 2022.

A common misconception is that Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is associated with one of the most popular MOBAs of all time, League of Legends. Despite Mobile Legends: Bang Bang sharing many similarities to the popular MOBA, this isn't the case. It is its own game, produced by Moonton Games, and it has become so popular that even League of Legends: Wild Rift, the mobile spin-off LoL, hasn't even been able to surpass it. By achieving and holding this position for so long, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang remains one as one of the best MOBA games of 2022.

4. Overwatch

When Blizzard released Overwatch in 2016, they did something with the genre that no other MOBA game had successfully done before. That was, put players into a first-person perspective in the online battle arena. The vast majority of MOBA games are top-down or third-person isometric. That's why when Blizzard beautifully orchestrated their first-person MOBA Overwatch, there was an understandable amount of hype for the game.

As a result, the high expectation, execution, and delivery of the game elevated it to a professional Esports game by 2018. Fast forward four years later in 2022, and Overwatch is still a highly-enjoyable and popular title. With its eyes set on expanding the game's current standing. Blizzard is currently working on an Overwatch 2 title, that will hopefully bring the game to a more impressive standing. The first beta test for the game ended just a couple of weeks ago, which has resulted in a lot of gamers returning back to grind their favorite MOBA game again.

3. Arena of Valor

Arena of Valor was released in 2016 and was another title that was early to ride the hype wave for mobile MOBA games. And while Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is showing some outstanding numbers, Arena of Valor is even more impressive. The game is so successful, that six years later in 2022, it's averaging over 15 million players monthly. That's a big pill to swallow, but there's more baffling evidence that shows why Arena of Valor is one of the best MOBAs of 2022.

It may come as a surprise, but the game has become so popular and successful that the Arena of Valor World Cup 2022 has a prize pool of $10 million dollars. And just to make it an even more mind-boggling stat, the overall amount of prize money for the game in 2022 is just under $50 million. With that knowledge, you could make the argument that Arena of Valor is one of the more popular MOBA games of 2022. However, it makes sense once you experience the highly advanced and intense combat of the game's 108 playable heroes.

2. League of Legends

If you've been around the gaming community, you've most likely heard of League of Legends. The MOBA was first introduced in 2009, and it has been the most popular MOBA year after year since then. Which probably has you asking yourself why it's not on the number one spot on our list. Even though the game takes the cake for player count, that's mainly because as complex as the game is, it's also not. LoL's success has always been that it's an easy MOBA to get into, that get's extremely addicting the more you play.

This isn't knocking the game by any means, as it will remain as one of the best MOBA games of 2022 and beyond. However, if you're going to dive into it, you can expect lots of rages and a rather toxic community that comes from its diehard fanbase. With that said, that doesn't take away anything from how the game plays, which is extremely engaging and competitive. Now, LoL has developed itself into a complete game, with hundreds of champions, tons of game modes, and a fairly challenging learning curve.

1. Dota 2

The original Defense of the Ancients (DOTA) was actually a spin-off MOBA for Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos. Since World of Warcraft was the most played game in the world at the time, it's no surprise tons of its player base gave the game a shot. Well, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, because Dota 2 isn't just the best MOBA game of 2022, it's also the highest-paid Esport game in the world. This year the Dota 2 Championships, which is known as The International is sporting a whopping $40 million dollar prize pool.

That's far more than any other MOBA game on this list and another reason why Dota 2 is the best MOBA game of 2022. And while the list of reasons why Dota 2 is the best MOBA is long, one of the main pillars is its advanced gameplay. The sheer amount of ways the game and its characters can be played and utilized with one another is barely even fathomable. So due to how tough the game is to get into, it makes sense that it doesn't amass the same player count as League of Legends.

It's no secret that Dota 2 is passively loved by pretty much anyone who steps within twenty feet of it. In fact, its popularity is so colossal, that its Esports tournament organizers have to fork out millions of dollars for prizes each passing year. And that's just The International, an event that pulls all of the best teams from around the world and pits them against one another. 2021 alone, believe it or not, awarded the team that scored first place a total of $18.2 million.

The reason for the ridiculously high stakes, of course, boils down to the complexity of the game itself. Although coined as a 5v5 RTS title that's easy to spectate, its mechanics, on the other hand, run a lot deeper, as does its extensive roster of playable heroes. Let it be told that understanding every nook and cranny behind it isn't an overnight process. But learn to master it, however, and you could wind up a million dollars richer. $18.2 million, apparently.

4. Fortnite

It's true, Fortnite has hosted its fair share of self-made millionaires over the years, many of whom have earned their fortune through simply winning a number of tournaments in the battle royale phenomenon. Winning big in one of Epic Games' events, of course, does often topple the $3 million marker, as few have gone on to prove since the game branched out to the Esports domain a little ways back.

Battle royale games have become all the rage these days, though nothing sticks as hard as the Epic Games entry. Opting for a realistic approach with a number of life-like qualities, the beloved battle royale entry employs the hearts of millions, making it one of the most successful online games on the market.

Speaking of Esports, though, the arena hit has been known to boast some pretty eye-watering prize pools in its time. For example, just last year the PUBG Global Invitational hosted 32 of the best teams on the block, three of which strolled away with a little over a million dollars in winnings. Now, if that isn't an incentive to pick up PUBG and take it for a spin, then we don't know what is.

In terms of difficulty in Escape From Tarkov, an equally brutal FPS multiplayer comes in Rainbow Six Siege. That's because, you can expect to get one tapped in this game too, except through a mug-sized hole in the wall. Most people who play that tactical breach and clear game know its difficulty and had to break through its tough learning curve. Which is learning all the angles of the maps, and each character's abilities. Each player chooses a character with unique abilities to help them in storming the bombsite, adding another degree of complexity to the combat.

When it comes to multiplayer online battle arenas (MOBA), the king of the court is DOTA 2. The game has over 100 playable characters, all with their own abilities and can be built in a numerous amount of ways. This means there is a huge learning curve to the game, on top of its advanced mechanical skills. You will need to master both if you want to see the slightest bit of progress in the game. So, when it comes to the heat of battle, knowing the right ability and item to cast at the right moment, might just be the difference maker.

This is something that also can't be done alone. Unlike League of Legends, you won't find any solo play taking over the game in DOTA 2. Players must work together, as a team, in order to find success. Abilities and attacks are supposed to be utilized in tandem with your teammate's characters, giving your attacks more benefits and damage. There is a reason DOTA 2 is the highest-paid Esport in the world because it's arguably the toughest multiplayer games of all time.

1. StarCraft II

One of the hardest gaming genres of all time is a real-time strategy (RTS). And there isn't a more advanced and faster RTS than StarCraft II. In a classic one-on-one dual, players will choose one of the three races to play as. Those are Zerg, Protoss, and Terran. Each of these races has its own specific units, armors, weapons, and fighting styles that work for it. With that, there are a variety of various ways for assembling your army, and a ton of different strategical approaches you can take before, during, and after fighting.

So you want to play a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA), but you're not sure which one to choose? That's why we're comparing Dota 2 vs League of Legends (LoL), to find out which one is better for you? Although there is a continuing debate between the two fanbases, on which game is better, the choice is entirely up to preference. Dota 2 is a very complicated and technical MOBA, which has pushed some gamers to prefer the comparatively simple and clear gameplay of LoL.

Both titles are worth trying out, as the old adage says, “Don't knock it till you try it”. But before you know which one to try first, read on! Because we will break down all aspects of Dota 2 vs League of legends, from what they are, to their different gameplay, characters, and maps. All in order to help you find out, which one is a better fit for you?

What is Dota 2?

Dota 2, is a free-to-play, three-dimensional isometric, real-time strategy (RTS) multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game by Valve. Dota stands for “Defense of the Ancients” (DotA). Which, originally was a mod for Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos, which further expanded itself to its own game today, Dota 2. The game puts two teams, known as the Radiant and Dire up against one another. Each team consists of five players each attempting to destroy the other's “Ancient” (home base), whilst defending their own. The first team to destroy each other's Ancient is the victor!

Furthermore, each of the 10 players will control their own “hero” in the arena. These heroes come in a range of gameplay styles and hold a variety of abilities. Each hero is meant to take on a certain position in the game, these are mid-lane, carry, off-lane, roaming support, and hard support. Heroes are leveled up, to a max of 30, and strengthened with experience points, which unlock their abilities or improve one already learned. You gather experience points by killing enemy players, destroying towers, and eliminating creep. These are the NPCs that populate the top, middle, and bottom lanes of the map. Likewise, this will give you gold that can be spent during the match on items to boost your stats and grant you special abilities.

What is League of Legends?

League of Legends (LoL), which is commonly referred to as just League, is a free-to-play, isometric, RTS, MOBA, developed by Riot Games. Once again, two teams of five drop into the map, Summoner's Rift. Each team is looking to push the respective lanes of top mid and bottom, and destroy each other's Nexus; which is Leagues version of Ancients. With that, there are towers and inhibitors resting at each lane's entry to the base, that need to be destroyed. Inhibitors are structures that prevent the enemy team's super minions from spawning.

Just like Dota 2, each lane is covered by towers and creep – also referred to as “minions” in LoL. Each team is composed of five players who control their own “champion”, which fills out the positions on the map. These are the top lane (Typically Tank), mid-lane, jungle, and two in the bottom lane (Typically an Attack-Damage Carry (ADC) and Support). These champions are leveled up by killing opposing champions, creep, turrets, and so on to get experience and gold. Each champion can be leveled up to a max of 18, which lets you unlock new abilities or upgrade current ones. Gold can also be used to buy items to buff your stats.

Champions and Heroes

Both Dota 2 and LoL have a “draft phase” where each team will pick their Hero/Champion. Currently, Dota 2 has 123 heroes, whose attributes, abilities, and items can define them into multiple class styles. Those are Carry, Support, Nuker, Disabler, Jungler, Durable, Escape, Pusher, and Initiator. LoL currently has 159 champions, who are sorted into six class styles. These are Assasin, Fighter, Mage, Marksman, Support, and Tank.

The main difference here is that in LoL, champions are played and built around their respective class styles. While in Dota 2, heroes may be built/played in a variety of ways based on your in-game role and how the battle is progressing. Giving Dota 2 a much higher complexity when it comes to choosing heroes.

Character Abilities

In Dota 2, each hero comes with four abilities (Some heroes have one or two passives while others have none). These are three basic abilities, and one ultimate- also referred to as “Ulti”. In-game, heroes can be leveled up to a max of 30, with each basic ability leveled up four times, and the ultimate three times. The rest of the experience points go into their passive Talents. Heroes work to cast these sets of abilities with mana, from their mana pool, under their health bar.

In LoL, champions also have four abilities, three basic and one ultimate. Each basic ability can be leveled up four times, and the ultimate three. However, champions cap at level 18, once all abilities are fully upgraded. Most LoL champions use mana, but there's a small bundle of them that don't use mana at all. Furthermore, some champions use energy, their own health, or specific Fury champions.

It's worth mentioning that champions in LoL tend to synergize inward, which means they scale off of their own qualities extremely well and may take over a game on their own. While in Dota 2, Heroes synergize outward, which means working together is essential to winning.

Maps/Multiplayer

In both LoL and Dota 2, there are three lanes that make up the map, top, mid, and bottom. Between these lanes are ways to move about the forest on the map, which is referred to as the “jungle”. Hence the role. For both games, the jungle consists of NPCs, monsters (LoL), and camps (Dota 2), that can be killed for XP and Gold. In LoL, there is a Dragon and Baron Nasher in the jungle. These grant the team who kills it a bonus buff for a period of time. While in Dota 2 there is Roshan. Similar to LoL Baron, however all it doe's is give gold to the entire team and grant one player with a guardian angel, which revives them with full health and mana.

Each game also has a casual and competitive game mode, with that, a variety of other game modes within the confines of the gameplay.

The Final Verdict

There is a reason the LoL esports scene doesn't see the same amount of fans, prize money, and viewers as Dota 2. This may be because Dota got to the hearts of gamers first. But mainly because it is a far more advanced game in comparison to LoL. You'll constantly find pro Dota 2 players referring to LoL as the “kids” version of the game. That's not to knock LoL as a game at all, however, it's relatively easier to learn and play compared to Dota 2. For Example, we have merely scratched the surface of Dota 2 for its in-game mechanics and gameplay. On the other hand, there isn't too much more to uncover for LoL.

So the final verdict of Dota 2 vs League of Legends is, if you are looking for a challenging and in-depth MOBA, then go with Dota 2. If you want a simpler and more comprehensible version, go with LoL.

Did you know that the video-game industry is bigger and more profitable than both the movie and music industries, combined? It's can be hard to believe but it's true. A big thanks for this achievement comes from Esports. In 2021, the global Esport market pushed just over a billion dollars in revenue, with this number expected to double in just a few years. The industry's five highest-paying Esports games are responsible for a large portion of this weight, although numerous other games also contribute.

Evidently, the sport's biggest games, and its most notable players, are making a comfy amount of pocket change. 2022 is no exception as it's projected to be one of the highest-paying years in Esports history. That begs for us to know what are the highest paying Esport games in 2022, and with that what their top players are walking away with. So, if you're on the fence about quitting your job to become an Esports pro, after reading this list, you might just want to follow through.

5. Arena of Valor

Arena of Valor is a competitive MOBA that is similar to League of Legends (LoL) except the Esports entirely mobile. So despite it not quite hitting the astronomical numbers LoL doe's every year, it's still an impressively close race. Neither title comes close to competing with the ultimate MOBA, DOTA 2 in terms of prize money, but there is still a good chunk of cash awarded. In 2022, the Arena of Valor World International Championship features a $2 million dollar prize pool.

That's not even the biggest tournament either. The 2022 Arena of Valor World Cup is breaking records this year by offering a total $10 million dollar payout, the highest it's ever been. I can't forget to mention a healthy $3.5 million of that going to the victors. For being a mobile Esport, the game is bringing in an absurd amount of money. With the top individual players making easily over half a million a year and the top 100, over six figures. Even players that fall below the top 100 mark are amounting a liveable income off the game.

4. PlayerUnkown's Battlegrounds Mobile

The mobile version of PlayerUnkown's Battlegrounds (PUBG Mobile), is another competing mobile game on the Esports scene. For some odd reason, the mobile version of the game is pulling in more prize pool money in Esports than its PC and console counterparts. The highest professional league for the game in China, the Peacekeeper Elite League (PEL) is bringing an annual $10 million in 2022 for its prize pool. Which has been the case for multiple years in a row.

The second biggest tournament for the mobile version is the PMGC, and in 2022 its prize pool is just under $3.5 million. With the winner, winner, chicken dinner walking away with $1.5 million. Not bad a bad income for a game played entirely on mobile. So it's no question that PUBG Mobile will only grow its prize pool every year, as the game is continuously raking in the money.

So far this year its top five players have already made over three-hundred thousand in under four months. By the end of the year, the game's top players make just over a million a year, with the rest filling up the top 100 making no less than two-hundred and fifty thousand a year. In fact, over the last three years, give or take, the top 300 players are making over six figures.

3. League of Legends

To no one's surprise, League of Legends (LoL) is once again set to be one of the highest-paying Esports games in 2022. Its largest tournament, the LoL World Championship has a constantly fluctuating prize pool, with last year around $2 million, and in 2022 it looks like it's shaping up to be the same. Despite LoL not having the biggest prize pool for its biggest tournament, it definitely has the most events. Add all of these together and LoL amounts to some of the biggest prize pool money each year of all Esports games.

The game is also one of the highest paying Esports games to its players. The game's current top players like Faker, Duke, and Bengi are consistently making over $1 million a year. With the top 50 players pulling easily over half a million. This isn't even to account for sponsorships, team bonuses, and streaming revenue, which could easily double if not triple these profits.

2. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

It's only fitting that an FPS like Counter-Strike Global: Offensive (CS:GO) is the consistent runner-up for the highest-paying Esports game, every year. In 2021 the game's total prize pool amounted to just under $22 million, with 2022 expected to top that number by a fair amount. It looks like CS:GO Esports is already off to a good start, as the game already is showing impressive prize pools.

We are still early into the year, but two big-name tournaments have already dropped their prize pool. IEM Katowice 2022 is opening with a $1 million dollar prize pool, and the BLAST Premier is set at $2.47 million across all its events. Not bad considering we are only one-third through the year, with many more events to come.

Despite players having to dice up and split a majority of the prize money, CS:GO is one of the most profitable Esports of 2022. So far, its top five players have already made over six figures, and are projected to fly past half a million by the end of the year.

1. Dota 2

All hail the king of Esports!

For the last nine years, Dota 2 has been the highest-paying Esports game. If it can achieve that record again this year, which it undoubtedly will, their decade-long reign of being the highest paying Esports game, will be complete. And something leads me to believe, that it will achieve this with flying colors.

Last year in 2021, Dota 2's biggest tournament, known as The International, broke a record for the largest prize pool for an Esports game, with just over $40 million. And if the money pattern continues, The International 2022 should be able to surpass $50 million this year.

Now if you really want to see some jaw-dropping numbers, take a look at this. in 2021 the Esport's top five players all made over $3 million in individual profit. With its top twenty players pulling in over half a million. That's an absurd amount of money to be circulating around one game, but I guess where it rains, it pours. With Dota 2 continuously pushing its Esports profit, there's a promising chance it will break more records in 2022 for the highest-paying Esports game.
